Clearcoated wheels
I was reading another thread about cleaning wheels when I remembered an old question that's been on my mind for years.
How do you tell if you have wheels that are clear coated? I have a '92 Bronco with the stock aluminum wheels. It would be nice to know if I can use the nasty cleaner or not.

The stock aluminums (fake rivet head, 10 hole) on my '92 were/are clear coated. One of the reasons I bought my Mickey Thompson Challengers. The clearcoat was beginning to seperate and flake off around the center caps. With the clearcoat, I found the best way to polish what finish there was on them was regular wax or even small amounts of rubbing compound. I don't know how good an idea the rubbing compund is if the rims are in good shape. I didn't care about long term because I knew I was replacing the rims anyway.
