2010 6.4 with 17k miles. Went from "frequent" heavy smoke with a blue tint to nearly constant smoke once vehicle reaches temperature. Sometimes says "Cleaning Exhaust Filter", but usually not. Will smoke nonstop for 35 miles at highway speeds, or all day long in city driving. One dealer says "normal", second dealer says "Yup, sorry. No fix for that." and hands me a TSB which states that Ford is working on problem, third dealer actually took vehicle in and said "We can fix that, no problem." Been there all week and no prospects of getting it back any time soon. This is my third Ford Diesel, first 6.4, first problems EVER. Any Help?
Oil every 5k, Wix Filter and Rotella T 15/40
Low Sulfur Highway Diesel
All Levels seem to stay normal, although the last bout was so prevelant I am sure if I had continued to drive it something would have shown a change.
Been to a Ford Truck Dealer twice. That's where I was told "Sorry, No Fix, Here's the TSB"
Currently at a Ford Car/Truck Dealership. First told intercooler, then turbo, now "working with Ford".
The smoking situation is like a BLOWN head gasket with a touch of oil in it. Heavy white smoke with a light blue tint. Fuel Mileage has dropped dramatically, no noticable performance decrease, slightly ragged idle at stop lights, but not always. Oh, and the smoke smells horrible, somewhere between a burnt clutch and stale beer puke. (really, someone else asked me about the smell with that description)
No Codes
Check Oil about every other week.

throw the wix filter out...never use anything but OEM on this motor...and the OEM cap. You might have a After market cap on there. Hope you have the original if not you will have to buy one.
You are suppose to use ULSD (ultra low sulfer diesel) max of 15 ppm of sulfer.
I would bet your real issue is injectors that are leaking causing an over fueling condition.
they need to replace the DPF as it is probably shot now.
You are lucky that you have not starved the motor of oil either. Get rid of the AF filter and cap. Goods is they will probably dump the oil anyway and replace it.
Most likely they are gonna have it a few days to replace injectors and DPF. they should be looking at the intercooler and the turbo. see if there is a bunch of oil there as well, indicating maybe some issues with the turbo.
What is the problem with the Wix filter? I have no problem going back to OEM, but I have always used Wix on ALL of my vehicles with no problems (Including my Mack E-7 with 15k hours in my work boat), but if the 6.4 really needs the OEM so be it. Just wondering why.
The fuel I use is the ULSD, that's all you can buy at the pump around here.
Thanks Again
Wix filters have a problem with pushing that spring in the center all the way down. That spring needs to be all the way down so that the oil bypass is enable.

I'm sure there is a thread on this forum from 5 or 6 weeks back. Guy blew an engine and had a wix filter which failed. Ford denied the warranty and Wix said sorry about that. I haven't seen any update but that's where he stood at the end of the thread.
I picked up my loaner Saturday morning. Service writer said tech is working with Ford on solution. Eliminated intercooler, looking into turbo and injector possibilities. I appreciate the input from you guys and I'll keep you posted. I just hope they figure it out.
Official word as of this morning is that Ford is aware of the issue and working on a fix. Dealer is to monitor OASIS for a fix and I am supposed to drive my truck as if nothing is wrong.
I'd open up a case with Ford customer service and have them check into it for you. At the same time I think you need a better Diesel Tech. So that may mean another service dept.
