Care to share the link for this quote?? As a dedicated Google search does NOT pull it up other than where YOU have posted it.

As for the rest of the quote "Parkerizing is the final step and a crucial step to help break the cam in- a heated acid bath that microscopically etches the metal surface and adds a very thin layer of graphite coating which allows the cam lube to hang onto and penetrate into the cam surface during cam break in" that is almost a word for word copy and paste from PDM Racings cam page...
If you read the article on Mr. Cranes web site, his explination is almost over-simplistic, but one that even a person with minimalistic skills can understand. It was not my intention to discredit your response in any way, nor leave an impression that I really wasn't knowledgable of what was stated, merely that the info I posted was a direct quote from Mr. Cranes web site...nothing more, nothing less- but I am dissapointed at the level of disrespect posted in the response.
Clearly unnecessary.

Get the FACTS or go home.
Snakeoil and BS may belong in an advertising campaign for some huckster but not on a forum where peers are trying to get REAL answers and KNOWLEDGE about their common interest. (in this case, Ford trucks, what makes them run, and more importantly IMO what makes them stop running)
Directed at whomever, "great" man, or not...

- Maiko Saravia (AHDRA and Tuner for Myrtle Beach Performance, dynoed my 79 Harley at 100/100 rear wheel, helped me find another 5 rwhp with just some minor exhaust mod's)
- John Erb (cheif engineer at KB Silvolite when I built my 429, we spent alot of time together on the phone and in emails figuring out the build on my 429)
- Carl Morrow (Carl's speed shop, very interesting man to sit and talk with about carbs)
and don't forget people like
- Bob Chandler (who took the time to sit and talk about doing a 460 swap with a wet behind the ears 20yr old back in '88)
There's others too, altho probably too small for you to know...
- Bub Lollis (was running his own Harley shop in '42 and loaned me tools I needed for my first rebuild, when I last saw him just over a year ago, he was still riding around on a 120" powered trike)
- Pete Hill (Top Fuel racer and builder, has some rather "unorthodox ideas" when it comes to building race engines, but they d@mn sure worked!)
- Bill Hauser (Engine builder extraordinaire from NC. Spent many evenings at his shop 25 years ago.. his "daily driver" back then was a F series with a 427 Cobra Jet. His playtoy was a Torino with a 427 SOHC Cammer shoved in it)
There are many others from both the car and motorcycle communities that over the years I have had the chance to meet and talk with, some of them in a technical aspect, others just being able to sit and drink a beer and listen to the stories of "way back when", but to sit and list them all is more time than I am willing to take.
Also, to clarify things for you, Harvey did NOT just transfer his ownership in Crane to a Fortune 500, to try and make it easier for you to understand here is a brief timeline:
- 1953 Founded by Harvey Crane
- 1963 Crane Engineering (later Crane Cam's) was incorporated
- 1980 ESOT (Employee Stock Ownership Trust) formed, allowing Harvey to sell off his interest in Crane
- 1989 Harvey (who now only control's 17%, having sold the rest of his interest to the ESOT) is removed by the ESOT. Basically he was "fired" by his own employees
- 2006 Mikronite acquires Crane from the ESOT
Also, after going over all the pages in his site, I find no mention of "parkerizing", "chinese", or "graphite". Just to be sure, I even forced a google search for those keywords restricted to his site.

Maybe you would like to share the ACTUAL link to the article and not just to his homepage?
Prior to John Erb obtaining his position at KB, my father was his mentor for about 3 years during his early professional development years. I spoke to my father regarding your comments, he agrees, absolute disrespct and the article as posted at HC's website is technically accurate for the average person who does not possess expertise in metalurgy. He also referenced to specific published papers, one from STM and one from Parson's (published in 1969 in SAE publication) specific to the use and application of this process in aerospae applications.
I nor my father have any issue with your position, what is discusting is your disrespect and violation of the websites rules regarding insolence communications.
