transmission issues

Hello
"04" 5.4 80,000, tow package, owned since new.
I cannot believe i am having a problem with my transmission so soon after finding out it is imposible to change the spark plugs.
A month ago, going up a half mile slight incline, i felt a shudder, i let off on the gas and looked in the rear veiw thinking the road had a washboard kind of section in it. Alas it was not to be. A week ago the same type of thing happened, let off on the gas and everything is fine. Two days ago hooked a heavy trailer, got on the highway and going a a hill it started to shudder(not in O.D.) let off on the gas got over the hll, same thing next hill, UT OH !! Transmission fluid is pink but does smell kinda burnt.
PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT WHAT I THINK IT IS

Boy maybe them chevy guys are onto something

Sounds like a torque converter issue. Have you changed the fluid lately? I had my fluid changed by the stealership last summer and mine does the same thing on two hills near my house. It is always between 45 and 50 mph. If I just keep steady pressure on the throttle or increase slightly it does not happen. If I am soft on the throttle or back off in that range on those two hills mine does it every time.

Annoying and frustrating at the same time.

Are you sure it isn't an engine miss? My 06 does it sometimes and I have come to the conclusion that it is a coil breaking down under load. Once it warms up a little I will start searching for the bad one.

I've sat here this morning really thinking that i really want it to be a bad coil, but i cannot.
I am sure it is transmission, i wish it were not, but........
I will take the beast out today in the snow and see if i can get another ear on it.
And yes i do agree that, Bad things happen to good trucks, I just wish it were not my truck!!

I'd have to second this argument. I have an older '98 that did the same thing until I had the trans power flushed. I know it's bad to power flush the thing, but just a simple trans & converter drain/new fluid fill and filter should take care of the problem. I assume the converters on these trucks have a drain plug on the converter?

No drain plug on the torque convertor on an 04. I would also add a bottle of friction modifier to the trans if you do change the fluid and filter. Seemed to really help out the older trucks with the 4r70w might help these newer ones as well.

IIRC, torque converter chatter doesnt normally set a code.
