I think there's a window on the inside of the brake housing, probibly covered with a rubber plug, that's used to access for adjustment.

Found this pic by camodown. Good look of the e-brake assembly with rotor removed.

I friggin forget Barry.

Try this. Lightly apply the e-brake until you can feel a slight drag when turning the wheel. Then adjust the star wheel a few clicks one way or the other. The drag will either increase or lessen and you will know which direction to turn. Release the e-brake once you have this figured out. The reason to lightly apply the e-brake is so you can find out which way to turn without as many adjustment clicks to the star wheel. I didn't think of this when I was adjusting and after about 20 clicks I realized I was turning it the wrong direction.

Robin, in your photo of the adjuster assy, if we knew which side of the photo was fwd or aft, you could tell from looking at the adjuster screw, which was to turn the star wheel to get it to expand.\

In the photo, for example, if the rt side is fwd, then pry the star wheel up to expand it.

Good point. The fact that you can clearly see the gas tank and not the drive shaft that is a pic of the driver side.

CW to expand the shoes on both sides (does that make sense?). I get so damn confused when on the backside I just start adjusting and then figure out which way is correct. Also, I have an e99 and the calipers are set up with one in front of axle, driver side, and on the passenger side behind the axle, although I would think that the e-brake assembly would be the same on both sides, maybe. I even replaced all the rotors summer of '08 and didn't take a pic.

I adjusted my explorer ebrakes today and on both sides flick the star adjuster down to loosen and up to tighten when working through the adjustment hole. I wonder if our super duties would be the same?
