This may have been covered before. My truck has the 4R70W transmission. I recently got a new filter for it. I have noticed that there is a different one listed for the same transmission. Also I think I noticed a typo on Orielly's werbsite. They are calling what I have a 4R75W. I have never heard of that.
Anyway, on to my question. What is the difference between these two filters. My truck takes the FT100. It says that the FT105 is for 4WD. My friend has a 96 2wd with the same drivetrain I have, but he has the 4WD type. Would there be any benefit to changing my pan to one to accept the FT105?
As far as i know , the 4x4 4R70Ws have a deeper pan , so it takes the longer filter , i use a B&M deep pan on my 2wd 4R70W , i use the 4wd filter & the pan has a pin on the bottom that comes up & holds the filter in place , i like the deeper aluminum pans , they never leak , have a drain plug , hold more fluid & have the cooling fins , that with a good trans cooler is a good set up IMO , plus there thick enough to drill & tap to put a temp gauge senser in the side of the pan....Lew
Thats pretty much what I thought about the filters. Every time I go to the parts store, no matter which one, they try to sell me the one for the 4X4 pan. When I tell them that one won't fit, they often have to pull out the paper book to look at the filters.
That sounds like a good idea about the pan upgrade. I don't know if I will be doing that though.
Thankfully, my truck came with a factory tranny cooler. I have thought about replacing it with a bigger one, but I'll probably leave it until it needs to be replaced or the trans gets rebuilt.
Yeah , my truck has the factory cooler in it to , the temp never goes over 150 , but i don't tow or haul any heavy loads , also has a shift kit in it that helps....
