I looked at an '00 350 SC SB 4x4 v10. Looked like a lariat to me, but I forgot to check for sure. Leather seats, doodads and nice paint. Really nice condition with 145k miles. The hitch is it needs about 4k worth of work. Exhaust manifold studs, ball joints, and front drivers side axle seal. They're askin' 8k, and not sayin' anything about the necessary repairs. I figure I'll let 'em know I'm not blind and try to talk them down to 4-6k. With 4k in repairs, that'd put me at 8-10k for a solid truck.
I'm going to look at an '03 250 Reg cab LB Fx4 that sounds as nice, not having seen it. Guy said he put new exhaust system with new y pipe and glass packs on it, k/n cold air intake, new TKO's front brakes and new plugs and packs. He's askin' 11k.
I do miss having an extended cab, but I love having a long bed.
Anyway, thoughts opinions and general BS accepted.
Tuff Decision.... If your haulin any weight, or pullin heavy trailers. I'd go for the 350. I had a 250 and the springs just don't handle the load. Ford's springs in the early 2000's were not that great. I had a 2000 F250 CC LB V10. (Lease), I upgraded to the 02 F350 CC SB V10. A Ford Tech friend of mine, said he use to get a lot of them back after 10,000 km. needing new springs. I put air bags in my 02. instead of new springs. Still have it, replaced the ball joints, and front hubs, and seals. Modified the exhaust, K&N air filter. Only thing else I've done to it was change tires, and spark Plugs once. 155,000 KM so far.
Well, about the biggest loads I've had yet have been a mini excavator, I've pulled a trailer loaded to about 6k a few times, and with my current beast - a 78 F250 - a bed full of dirt that made it sit level and not bounce down the highway so much. But it's nice to have the option. I think that my biggest problem is each truck I get is bigger than the last. At this rate, I'll be driving a Kenworth to get groceries in about three trucks.
I like the 350, but then I'm alway's pullin something or loaded down with something. They ride a little rougher, but I've always liked the Truck feel. The 2000, Was my biggest. with the Crew Cab and the long box, Felt 6' tall and bullet proof, but had to park a long way's from the front doors of the stores. It used a lot of parking lot to turn around. It was really fun to pull up behind a honda and see the look on thier faces when all they could see was the big grill.

I gave up parking close to buildings when I had a Ex cab and short box. I can imagine with the CC LB. Bass Pro is about the only place I feel comfortable pulling into parking spots instead of backing in. Gotta give 'em credit, they know their customers and stripe their lot accordingly.
I love when someone cuts me off in some little car and I can get right up behind 'em and turn on my lights. They usually hurry up and get out from in front shortly thereafter.

Yeah, I'm strongly leaning toward the 350 for that very reason. I've had reg cab long box and extended cab short box, and I always miss the ex cab more than the long box. Now if I could find something I could afford with both, then that'd be gravy.
Oh, and I realized I forgot to say the 350 was srw.
The ex-cab is great for coats, coolers, etc,,I call it my closet,,Put my Paslode Nailer back there keeps it a tad warm in the cold months,,and bring it in the house when I grab the Cooler,,,,,and in a Pinch a man can sit back there,,,better then walking or riding in the Back.
Well, I'm gonna go try to talk her down tomorrow hopefully. I've seen it posted on CL two or three times in the past few months, so hopefully she'll be amenable to a fairly large price reduction. She's askin' 8k, which is blue book for good condition, but it needs 4k in repairs. Most of the good superduties that old with under 150k miles are going for around 10k here, unless it's a 5.4. Of course I'm starting to think that all the CL idiots must have gold plated their 7.3 motors. They're askin' half the price of new for a truck with 175-200k on it that's ten years old or better. Even the 300k ones have 17k asking prices. Maybe those 7.3s in my area are all developing exhaust leaks around the same time.
In 2003 both the F-250s and the F-350s with Diesel engines have the same springs/brakes/axles etc. The F-350s had a 3.75" rear block and the F-250s had a 1.75" block under the springs. The reason why the 350s were rated for a higher payload was because the standard tires on the F-350 were 265/75R16 tires, and the F-250s came with smaller, 235/85R16 tires. Same diameter, different load capacity. And, since the weight ratings were based on the basic truck...even if you ordered the 265 tires on a F-250, you still got the lower rating. Pretty sure the gas models were set up the same.
i think the 03 f250......if it checks out to be good. If the 00 model has all those problems its most likely been put thro alot, or not been taken care of to good. if the owner of the 03 has put all that other stuff on it, i bet he's taken good care of it too.

Well that would explain a few things. And they must have improved the quality too. I have an 07 in the diesel, use it to pull the same trailers and loads. (even more cause it does it better than the V 10) and I'm still running without OEM springs, and no airbags. The truck does not sink anymore today than it did when new.
Well, I talked to the lady with the 350, and she said she wasn't feeling too pressed to sell, and wouldn't come down more than a couple hundred bucks. I can't justify paying close to blue book then 4k in repairs to get it on the road.
I'm gonna check out this 250 tomorrow, and if I like what I see, I may go for it. Pics look good, and it sounds like he's taken good care of it. We shall see. If not, oh well, then I wait. Just have to nurse the '78 on for a few more days till something shows up that I like.
Two months ago there were all kinds of 'em in the price range I'm looking at, but they all dried up about two weeks before I got the money together.

Yeah, it sucks. I really liked the truck. Loved the paint, had everything I wanted in it except a long bed, and was super clean. Loved everything but the 4k in repairs. Oh well. I can afford to be picky for a little bit longer.
I'm actually liking this one I'm going to look at tomorrow. At least on paper. We'll see when the rubber hits the road. If not, then lets just hope the beast holds up for a little while longer.
