I assume the chips are right to bare metal, if not primer? If u dont want to paint the whole truck, I'd keep dabbing some filler primer in the chip,(mask as close to the chip as possible) try to fill the chip gradually without getting any on the paint, and get a somewhat close color match, apply some to the chip to build the last few thou's ,, a small hobby brush will work. And try to polish the new paint to blend a little. It wont look perfect but the truck itself should draw your eyes from them. Any pics by the way??
Thanks. Some chips are to the bare metal. I know they sell tiny bottles I think you may be able to spray from but not sure. May see if I can get the running boards powdercoated. It seems like the black paint used won't last long.
Yeah I need to learn how to put pics on. I know one club kicked off the internet because I posted no pictures. Maybe my kids can show me. Been a long time but never lost interest and basically finished except for some upholstery.
An easy way to add pics is to go to the User CP, click on Edit gallery, Create an album of your truck here and after u have uploaded pictures u can select their forum codes to allow u to put pics in any thread.
I'll look into it. Just wondering if the small bottles about 6" high of compressed air they sell at art supply stores have ever been used. If so do I have to spray a primer first. Or if anyone is familiar with the Appolo type sprayers can be used for touch up. My background is with woodworking not mechanical. I know we have ways of fixing scratches in woodworking. I'll check into the the site you suggest.
You can spray, but you will have a LOT of wetsanding to smooth out the repairs. If you go to an auto body supply shop you can buy a disposable paint gun that uses a CO2 canister, but like I said, you're gonna wind up doing a lot of sanding you might not want to get into. Plus after wetsanding you will need to polish out the sanding marks, which means you will have to invest in a good polisher, pads, and polishes. Lots of money to spend when the Dr Color Chip system is pretty inexpensive and does the job VERY well.
FYI: I'm a professional detailer. People pay me $25/hr to clean/polish their cars.
