I'm wondering if I can get a little help, I'm having a hell of a time finding the specs on my differentials. I think I've got the front narrowed down to a standard differential with a 3.07 ratio. I can't find much of anything on the rear other than a picture to match it to. It looks like an 8.8 it's definitely not a 9".
I've included some pictures below, can you guys help me identify these damn things? I'm going to order a couple of Aussie Lockers and I want to make sure I have all the relevant information.
Front axle is a D44, with 3.07 open gears, rear is 8.8" with 3.08 open. At least, that's what the tags say...... Also just happens to be what most 84 F150 4x4's were equipped with.....
I'm having a hell of a time finding the specs on my differentials. Front Tag: E3TA TC / 610198-10
Ford ID number: E3TA-TC / Dana ID number: 610198-10 = Dana 44 Front Driving Axle / 3.07-1 / Auto Free Running Hubs / non Limited Slip / 3,550 lb. Front Axle Capacity.
AXLE code 18 (listed on the Certification Label: 'sticker on door jamb'): Ford 8.8" Rear Axle / 3.08-1 / non Limited Slip / 3,750 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
Is it just me or from the picture of the front Diff does it look like it doesn't come apart on that side. I see the bolts but it doesn't look like a cover the way the Rear diff does. Or maybe it's on the other side or just completely covered with grease. It's too damn cold to crawl under there right now and inspect it the way I need to.
Also, and maybe this is stupid, but I see the front is a Dana 44, So the rear is a Ford 8.8? I guess I would have assumed they would be the same.
Ok, it looks like that is the actual name of the Rear Diff. I wasn't sure. I found this:
FORD 8.8-INCH
The 8.8-inch debuted in 1983 Broncos and F-150s, and is now found also in 4.0-liter Rangers and Explorers/Navajos. It is easily distinguished from a 9-inch by having a cover on the back.

To take it apart you have to pull the driver's side axle stub out and disconnect the passenger side axle at the slip joint. The inner axle shaft is clipped inside the differential. Then you unbolt the differential from the axle housing and it comes out the back side.

Nope, they aren't. You have the names right though.
