Question cv axel assembly help??

I recently had my 97 Ford f-150 4x4 V8 4.6l worked on due to a curb accident. The mechanic replaced the lower arm assembly, cv axcel assembly, a shock, etc. All tires but the d/s front were size P255 70R 16's. The front right tire was P235 70R 16. None of the tires were balanced and the allignment was way off on the steering column. I ran out of cash getting it fixed so i drove it locally (nice & easy) for a couple of weeks. The other day I noticed a loud screeching and grinding noise coming from under the truck. I crawled under it today and noticed that the CV axel assembly that the mechanic installed was loose from where it goes into the differential assembly. (I could pull it out towards p/s wheel and then it would return inside the transfer case. Is this normal? Is this something that the mechanic didn't install properly or could I have caused it by driving with a smaller tire? I called him back and he stated he had a hard time getting the axel into that location and that I may have damaged the gears in there when I hit the curb. He told me to have somebody turn the wheel as I guide the cv axel shaft back into the differential. Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

the other end is anchored in the wheel lhub and dont move. How are you moving the end near the differential ? how did it get out of the differential ? maybe its the wrong axle ?

loose cv axel assembly

I just grabbed it and pulled on it where the cv axel goes into the differential flange and it moved approx. 2-3" towards the passenger side tire. Then it returned flush to the diferential box.
