Thanks Rog! This is why the geotagging on all my devices is OFF. But to cover my bases maybe I should post some pics of the large arsenal that mt lady and I are both quite proficient with!

X2 on this. First thing I did with my new phone and camera.
I also photoshop and remove my license plate # from every pic I post online... I'm sure that's still not good enough but oh well..

Thanks for the article Rog, shot you some rep

It's amazing the stuff that goes on you never know about. Thanks for pointing this out. I don't take pictures with my phone, but I'll have to look and see if I have this feature turned on or off.

It mentioned something about cameras. Do digital cameras do this too? I don't think my camera has a GPS chip in it. Guess I'm off to my gallery to see if I can find any geo tags.

Yes, some newer cameras have GPS chips with built in geotagging. Should be a setting you can turn off

Your big SLR's can have it, but your cheap point and shoots probably wont.

But, always turn it off.

You can scrub metadata from your pics before posting them online to get rid of the GPS data.

Not all photo editing software will display the geotags embedded in the picture.

I sent this link to my mother, she sent me a picture that she had taken of her TV with a Blackberry.

Even though she was inside the house, when I converted the degrees, minutes and seconds to decimal degrees, then entered that into Google maps satellite view, it actually showed where her TV is located in the house.

The software I used to get the geotags was Picasa 3.

A lot of people do not know that printers have hard drive that saves what you print so
when you give it to someone all they have to do is print what is in memory like a lot of
personal information.

I've got a warm welcome for any intruder as well! And with 4 dogs, I doubt anyone will get in my home without me knowing..Makes me feel good when I work nights. Slightly O/T, i belong to a surplus rifle forum, and I am always shocked when I see guys posting pics of their entire valuable rifle collections. some info is best shared with friends and family, not to be posted on the web.
