2000 Explorer won't start, low fuel pressure

I have read through many past postings, but I can't seem to find anything about this problem regarding the SOHC engine. A few days ago, the truck just up and died. Today I removed the fuel filter and found it to be significantly clogged. There is a new fuel pump, and now a new filter in the truck. From what I have read, the "X" engine has a fuel pressure regulator. Does the "E" engine also have one? and if so, where is it? The pump cycles a few seconds after turning the key and shuts off. When I press in on the Schroeder valve, after a few cycles of the key, fuel begins to dripple out. Doesn't appear to have even close to the 32psi ? that I have read that the "X" engine requires. Any ideas?

Was the dribble of fuel after you replaced inline the fuel filter?

Yes, but I have to cycle the key on and off several times before I get that "dribble"

When you had the filter off did you try the pump to verify good flow and pressure at the line going into the filter? If not, seperate the line there and check for flow and put your thumb over the opening to see if the pump makes pressure.

There is considerable flow prior to the filter, but next to no pressure when I put my finger over the line. I guess my next step is to drop the tank and check the in tank filter, then the pump itself. I'll be out of town for several days, but please continue to offer suggestions.

I think you may have a weak fuel pump and if you are the one who replaced it it may still be under warrantee. The parts stores usually give a 1 year replacement on the fuel pumps.
