Ya i saw your thread or post one time about the front driveshaft and scheduled appointment they had overlooked. Not good for somebody driving some 7+ hours to get to his shop. Kinda made me leery of goin out-of-town to get mine lifted. Let us know what you decide.
I saw and remember an article in FourWheeler I think it was testing four or five, heck I'll go find it....here it is covers .
In the magazine article the clear gearz was completely flattened when they ran it over with the bull dozer .
But, if you don't plan to run into anything with the diff you'd be fine.
The Dana 50 and Dana 60 are all the same. I don't think the new ones are any different from the older ones. I had a 96 f-350 and I can't tell any exterior difference from that one to my 99.
Might want to call or emial Mag-Hytec.....or one of their dealers. I think I remember seing a pic of one of those Turtle Expedition (or whatever they are called) vehicles that was a SD that had a Dana 60 front and I think a Mag-Hytec cover. The shape of it had a notch in it to clear the tie rod............If my memory is any good.
What I like about the Mag-Hytec is the o-ring to seal it against the diff, the magnetic drain plug and the dipstick, and the incresed capacity and cooling ridges.
Here is a pic of the Dynatrac one:
I wish that they would have tested the Mag-hytec ones in the magazine test as well. I know that the Dynatrac one held up very well and had very little damage to it.
I doubt most people are going to be running into things with their diffs though............
