Check this site out www.panicware.com they have a program called pop up stopper that works pretty good.I have been using it for about a year now with good results. They have a free version ,when you go to the site click on downloads and its on that page.
Just remember that as soon as new software is available that works, the advertisers are right there with it trying to create new codes to work around them. I believe we as the users should put a stop to it by boycotting the internet. When revenues stop pouring in, the isp's will take care of the useless spamming without geting legislation involved. Once the politicians get there hands on it, we end up paying for it and it doesn't stop.
Case in point would be emails. We wanted spamming to stop and they let them do it as long as we "opt-in". I've never asked for emails regarding my manhood or get-rich-quick schemes. In fact, the only place I have asked for notification from a website is this one and a Pontiac board. but I recieve 200-300 emails a day saying I "opted-in".
It just tears me up to have to delete so many emails I didn't ask for.
this guy write freeware programs for all sorts of stuff and has one of the best popup stopper I have ever seen.
If you get a popup that isn't in the programs list all you have to do is click the little icon next to your computer clock in windows and then click the add popup button and it kills it and then remembers it for the next time.
The program is under his software page in the network section and is called POW!.
I found out about this site from the TV show on Tech TV called the screensavers.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Oct-02 AT 07:27 PM (EST)]I use "StopZilla". It Kills ALL popups with no questions asked! I love it but it isn't free. (not that I ever visit a site that has an extreme amount of popups )

No problem, That site has a lot of useful freeware stuff and no annoying spyware like a lot of the popup killers out there. Figured I would share with the FTE crew cause I know I hate those darn ads a lot.
I am a computer geek as well as a gearhead. My two hobbies are fixing my truck up and tinkering and modifying my computer.
My commputer has a window as well as custom blue lighting and other modifications to it. I plan to use some of my modding skills when it comes time to redo the interior of my truck and such.
Enjoy the program it works great. like you said it isn't automatic but once you add the popup into the list it will kill it every time.
