I was wondering if anyone has installed a remote start on their Ex and can help me with the door trigger wire. I am putting in a remote start on my wifes Ex and have everything hooked up but having trouble locating the door trigger wire. Wiring charts say its a Black/blue stripe wire in kick panel - am wondering how to test for correct wire. Thanks for any help.
Its a '04 Ex EB with keyless entry, if any of that makes any difference.
You need to use a test light. ground one end and poke the other into the wire then open the door and see if it lights up. By the way door trigger would only be need for a combo.
Radmacks, are you saying that I only need the door trigger if I am installing a remote start/alarm combo? I'm not sure what the door trigger is for on the remote start system, the instructions say to tie the remote starter into it if the vehicle honks when locking/unlocking doors with factory remote. Thanks for the help.
According to the wiring chart I looked at you would need that for a factory alarm disarm which is not required with the PATSII on this vehicle. The door trigger is for dome light supervision to trigger the alarm if a door is opened. I put a combo in mine so I hooked up everything. But if you are just installing a starter I would not worry about it that wire is not needed.
One problem I did have is the programble bypass module that copies the code form the key. I tried two different models and brands and both did not work. I had to resort to the one that actualy has the key inside the box and loops to the ignition. However I used an imobilizer tag instead programed and placed in the box.
Radmacks, thank you for your response/help. My installation instructions led me to believe that without that wire hooked up the truck would start but not stay running, which I didn't quite understand. The instructions leave much to be desired for a DIY. I did some more research and finally found some info that should solve my problem. I will find out when I get back home to complete the installation. I do have the bypass module and that works fine. My 16 yr old son is earnestly hoping I can't get it figured out so he can put it on his Bronco. Thanks again.
The only thing that will shut the truck off after it has started is one of two things 1. VTS (Virtual Tach Sense) or the actual tach wire. I have had no luck with VTS in any of my vehicles including my Ex and recomend using the tach wire instead of VTS. Not all starters have VTS but just incase your thinking of using it.
you guys are MUCH braver than I
I had the ford gold remote installed as part of my purchase and they came out to the house to do the install in the driveway - had him do it in the drive of the new house next door so he wouldn't block us up...
this guy had done 100's of them he said and did it by memory and it still took him a LONG time....
went out a little way into it and there was a SNAKE pit of wires laying around...wondered if it would ever get back together
I am in the process of installing a remote start in my Ex now it came out of my Explorer, which I also installed. From my instructions it looks like the door trigger is needed as the "wake up" for the trucks power lock system. I have not had time to try it just yet but hope to finish the job soon. All is done just need to add the door trigger so it will unlock with remote. Did you finish yours?
No, I have not had time to finish mine. I have decided to forego the door trigger because I have had no luck finding the wiring information for that wire. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough to finish mine this weekend. If I get it done, I will post results. Thanks.
