I have a 2005 Excursion with 42K miles on it. It has tan leather bucket seats in the second row and I would like to swap it for a bench seat. I read a post with detailed pictures showing it could be done pretty easily. The problem is locating a bench seat. I'm not interested in shipping seats back and forth because I have been burned with other stuff in the past and I am also not interested in driving any distance to pick one up. It's not the most important thing for me to change out. Does anyone know of a resource in the Long Island, NY area where I can locate a matching 2003 - 2005 bench seat (other than Craig's list)? Thanks for any help on this. It is appreciated.
Man I wish you were closer, my wife gripes about our second row bench everytime we go somewhere and I told her I would look into getting captain chairs. Are you sure you dont wanna meet half way? I'm in Beaumont, TX. lol.
We have a 2002 limited, tan interior 2nd row bench (with fold down armrest). would love to swap to buckets. Is the '02 not in the year range you're looking for? We're in Massachusetts, could meet you halfway- say Connecticut?
Thanks for the web address Wallz. I can see that there is plenty of interest in a seat swap. I would really prefer to trade with someone who has a 2003-2005 with minimal to no driving involved for a swap. The interior color code from drivers door sticker is NH. Anyone out there, Long Island, NY???? The bucket seats in my truck are in barely sat in condition. There are pictures of them on Craigs list (NY-Long Island, car parts section).
make sure you SIT in the so called 'bucket' seats for a trip before swapping out the bench...
the bench with the wide armrest is much more comfortable than the buckets....
NOW, put the front seats in the second row and we might can talk !
but the third seat passengers would be riding blind !
I've actually seen one where there were 3 rows of front seats in the truck. A lot of work to replace the third row with front buckets. The gas tank would have to be removed just to get bracing underneath for the seats to bolt down and you still need to maintain clearance for the tank to go back in. It also looked a little odd because the seats were somewhat higher back there because of the step up on the floor. The second row can also be done with front buckets but you need all new bracing underneath to hold them. There is a frame cross brace under the back side of the bolts so that is also difficult to do "Right".
The stock 2nd row buckets bolt right in and if adding them to a 2000 or 2001, you only need to drill 2 holes for 1 seat and you can get a piece of channel tubing right in there to add bracing.
Personally, I like the bucket seats in the second row more but would like the extra seating capacity.
