Help, Stranded

Well, She is home. Used some starting fluid and was able to limp her to the house. What a trip. The engine idles at about 1200 rpm and will not come down.I changed the IAC but it had no effect. The transmission will not shift at all. I have to shift it manually. Starting in D, I have to shift to 2 for it to shift and then back to D. At times it feels like it will not leave 2nd gear. The only thing I, or the mechanics who have looked at it can come up with it is the pcm is bad. Is there any way to test this or confirm it before i buy one?

At least its at home now. Take a look at ford fuel injection and see if they have a method for testing the ECM/PCM. Its possible there is some info in the tech section on here as well. I don't know if there is or not.

Ok guys, now its getting wierd. I have not touched her for a few days, work and weather. Today I disconnected the battery, thought i would see if resetting the computer did any good. Tried to start her and the same, spin and spin but wont start. However this time I have trouble codes! WTF, had none before but now I have four codes, 114,116,121, and 636. I am at a total loss now. I have got to get this thing fixed asap.

The 121 could mean a bad TP sensor.
The other codes are normal for a cold engine.
DTC 121 indicates the Throttle Position (TP) sensor's rotational setting may be out of Self-Test range.
Possible causes:
-- Binding throttle linkage.
-- TP sensor may not be seated properly (tightened down).
-- Damaged TP sensor.
-- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Visually inspect carburetor/throttle body and throttle linkage for binding or sticking.
Verify the throttle linkage is at mechanical/closed throttle. Check for binding throttle linkage, speed control linkage, vacuum line/electrical harness interference, etc.
Does throttle move freely and return to closed throttle position?

I have checked the linkages and the butterflies and there is no binding or problems of any kind. The TPS was replaced about 6 months ago and is tight and plugged in correctly. Guess I am back to the PCM. I have a spare tps so I will swap it out and try that although I dont think it will make a difference at this point.

Well, I swapped the tp sensor for an old one and it started right up. The one I bought 6 months ago was bad. Took her for a drive and she drove fine. Came home, disconnected the battery to reset the computer and went for another drive. This time all was not well. When I tried to accelerate, it would stutter and die. Almost like there was water in the fuel. I limped home and checked for codes and got 3, 121(tp sensor) 128 (map sensor) and 212(IDM signal). I am going to get a new tp sensor and Map sensor and then check the IDM, which is new. Will this ever end?

Sorry Bill, thats what lack of sleep can do for you. I replaced the ignition module on the fender. Drove her to work this morning, or at least tried to. At about 40 mph she has a dead spot. It is like cutting the engine off. Immediate and total loss of power like the engine died. She starts fine and you can sit and rev it up but at speed she will just die. The engine is still running but you cannot get her to go until the rpm drops then it will pick up to the dead spot again and start all over. Could this be just the dist or is the pcm the most likely cause?

Yes, it was the black one, I know the grey ones are junk. As for the tps. I replaced it about 6 months ago, and that one was bad. Placed an old one I had to get it to start. Will be getting a new one tomorrow after work and replacing it. I hope that is the reason for the dead spot. Thanks for all of the advice Bill.
