A while back my brother was showing off his Ex to me. When we looked under the hood I noticed the individual spark plug coils and I thought they were pretty cool. Well now I'm thinking of using these coils in a different way and wanted to know some specifics about these coils.
What I need to know are First what is the ohm reading for these coils, and Second what is their output?
I figured this would be a good place to ask since someone here would know how to test these coils to see if they are good or bad.
Have no clue on the ohm, sorry. Never needed to know. It's not very common, but when they fail, they just fail. No testing needed.
As for determining which ones have failed, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) thrown will tell you which COP (Coil On Plug) has failed.
I just had two of them give up the ghost on my 2003 F150. My '99 Lightning still has all the original COP's, except one, and that one didn't fail, it was destroyed when my truck spit a plug.
Here's a little more info, not evrything your looking for. I don't guess you would like to share what your "other" use for the coils is is for? 2002 PCED OBD II.pdf
I was looking at my other passion My Harley, and was thinking of different ways to customize it. this was one of the ways. I also thought it might get a hotter spark to each cylinder.
I just needed the Ohm range for testing a coil. I found in on this site, I searched on "resistance" if I remember correctly. I think the rage was .6 to 1 Ohm.

The DYNA Ignition needs a coil with a value of 3-5 Ohms. The .6-1 seems low, short pieces of wire measure that low. I think I may have to go down to a parts store and get them to let me test a coil. that is when I get a free minute. Anybody out there have a few extra minutes to spare?!? LOL
