drain the fuel bowl, may have to release pressure on the cap. Take cap off
pull old filter out
clean little screen on drivers side of fuel bowl about an inch down, can use a qtip and take the cotton off the end
put some diesel kleen or fuel in the bowl (I sometimes forget to put fuel in and it fires anyway but just as well)
replace lid with new gasket and fire
hmm, i never drain my bowl, i just take out the filter and plop the new one in there. sometimes it over fills, just take a rag and soak it up, latelty its been just fine. but you might as well check the screen while your inthere.
You can fill the whole thing with diesel kleen. I fill mine with atf and then put some atf in the tank. Just to help clean all the junk out. Atf has alot of detergents.
Thanks for the advice. I have always just pulled the old one out and put in a new one. Just spent 1200 at the dealer. Mechanic said bottom of filter bowl was full of gunk.

Um, spent 1200 for what? You can't make a blanket statement like that, especially such a scarey one.
