6 port selector valve for 1980/89---INTERNAL FILTER

Just eliminated one of the sources of disfunction on an 87 4.9L F150 that I just aquired. The 6 port selector valve was internally leaking. Fortunately, I had one I just removed from my prior truck so I swapped them out. Function returned. Since the "BAD" one had only one purpose-- Fill the trash can, I disassembled to learn. Removing the 8 screws uncovers a silicone rubber diaphram that is controlled by fuel flow and pressure from either fuel tank and causing the unit to direct flow to the supply and vent lines appropriately. No disfunction found in that area. I then removed the "reservoir" can portion--(Super Size) channel lock pliers gripping the end away from the thread area. Upon removal, to my suprise, there is a pleated paper fuel filter. Also two O rings on plungers. One O-ring was out of position accounting for the disfunction. I didn't check pressure loss across the unit but I am certain it was excessive. The filter looked more like a fine silt filter than it did a clean fuel filter.

If anyone has functional issue, I recommend removal of the reservoir for inspection of filter cleanliness as well as correct location of "O" rings and being debris free. Hop this saves someone the purchase of a new assembly. No ID info on the filter, uncertain if can be sourced from FRAM etc or if just doing a reverse flow cleaning is the only available salvaging method.

If all else fails, the reservoir makes an excellent small parts container.

Nice info!

I assume this is the item you are calling a "6-port selector valve"?

If it is, the filter maybe a Wix part number 33268.

From a thread on another forum: FSB.com: Not getting fuel with a new fuel filter!?

LazyK, thanks. RLA2005, yes. Ford Name-- Fuel Reservoir--- but I chose to call it a selector valve in hopes that more people would be able to find when doing a search. I also referenced RESERVOIR in my text. BOB the Treeman
