new 02 sensor
i just installed a new bosch exact fit o2 sensor in my truck (truck in sig). what do i have to do for the computer to recognize the new sensor? i did a little searching but all i could find was to drive on the highway for 10 minutes with a steady gas pedal. do i need to disconnect the battery for a certain amount of time? anyway, im excited to find out if i will gain some mpgs because my old o2 sensor was definitaly shot.

My personal preference would be to disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes to clear the PCM of all the old data. Eventually the PCM will adjust the fuel trim, but why have that shiny new O2 sensor in there and not take advantage of it right away?

The EEC will adjust to the new sensor immediately and without you doing anything, you can disconnect the battery and wipe out the memory if you like but that won't make it learn any faster.. just gives it a different starting point and after a few drive cycles it'll be at the same place it would have been if you did nothing.
