89 f150 ignition issue
I would greatly appreciate some help with an ignition issue Im having. I bought the truck a couple of weeks ago. It would start if you lifted up on the column. I inadvertently broke the column by lifting too hard one night, but could still start it by jumping the starter solenoid once I had the key in the 'run' position.
I got the column rebuilt but still had to jump the solenoid. I figured the solenoid was bad and replaced it. Same result: have to jump it to start.
So next I thought perhaps the ignition switch on the column was out of adjustment. It does not start regardless of where I position it. Thinking it was maybe a bad switch I replaced it. No luck, I still have to jump the starter solenoid.
I am feeling pretty stupid here. I replaced those parts because they were cheap and easy to replace. I do not want to be guessing at anything else. Is there something I am overlooking?
You can double check the fender mounted relay by pulling the light gauge wire and jumping from battery pos to that small terminal on the relay. If the starter runs the relay is good.
