I was going to darken them up to make them look better on my black/silver pickup. I tried that "night shade" stuff. Followed directions to a t, and it turne out looking like there where cracks everywhere. So, sanded/scrapped it all off, cleaned, and sprayed again. Same thing happened, so io just put thEm on. They look like **** so I just want to buy some aftermarket non stock looking ones. I haven't seen any that I like yet. What do you guys like?
That blows. I bet the weren't clean enough or it was too cold or humid outside. The only ones that look good are the stock ones. Other than that the only thing that looks decent is taking a new pair of stockers and one light coat of nightshade to smoke them not black them out with clear over than to make them shiney again.
All the euro lights look like hammered crap from fast and furious. I take that back, there is one set of non stock ones that looks good. Thats the solid clear frosted ones. They are hard to find. They look weird when the lights are on though. I think its because you have to use red bulbs. The red appears lighter and almost pink looking. They do kinda look cool when off though. Of course there isn't much point in nightshading those, because that won't look any different than using the stock ones.
It would be cool if somebody would make lightly smoked stock style lights that looked like dark red.
I'll have to get a picture to show what the nightshade did on my stock lights.
I've never had a paint/coating do that before. I the second try I even went with such light coats you could hardly see them. Even waited 15 min between.
Any advice on how to replace the marker lamps up front? I smashed through a brand new subaru in my 96 F250 and the only damage to me was the driver side marker lamp.
I ordered the OEM replacement and I can't figure out how to remove the chrome bezel and turning signal. The marker lamp(next to the headlight) is mounted on the same piece as the turning signal. I removed the 2 screws that show and the whole assembly seems loose but i cannot gain access to the back side of it to screw the new marker lamp on.
I dont want to muscle it because it is quite cold outside and breaking the plastic would be counter productive.
Cool stuff. I'll have to stare at that picture for a couple more months before I decide if I'd like it on mine or not. I have no issues with my stock taillights though, and I like them, so I don't know that I will just based on that. Good initiative on the project though.
It all started because I have been wanting to "black out" my pickup. After I fubared the stockers with the tint, I either needed new units or figure something else out.
I saw these lights and kinda liked them. Took about a day of thinking to figure out where to mount them. All I used to cut the stock lights is a dremel. I like how they turned out. Never seen another like it. So I'm happy with it.
Ive been wanting to build my own since the LED tailight company is taking so long.
Only problem im seeing right now is finding LED boards that are dual intensity for running lights AND brake lights.. I dont know much about the whole LED circuit boards and wiring them so I would like to find pre built boards with LEDs.
