I bought a "kit" that came with the lights, plugs, and rubber that holds them in for around $35

mine has FORD stamped behind it... if it was smooth id use some metal body filler or weld them up and grind it smooth....

I know this is more work than what you were looking at, but I'm just thinking out loud. I wonder how it would look if the tail lights were painted to match the paint scheme of the truck, including the pinstriping with those lights in it and then with the round lights in it.

After 1968 front side markers were federally mandated. I'm not sure what year rear ones were.

That would look much better, it would look more finished off. They sell meetal panels to replace the tail lights. You could weld them in and make them seamless. That might look cool.

Is your tailgate trim panel in good shape? It looks like it is. What are you going to do with it?

This would make for a good side marker if you can find it in clear with red LEDs.
