I have a 95 f-150 w/ the 4.9 six. For a couple days after it rains, my belt squeaks at idle at low rpm's. As soon as I start moving, the squeak goes away. I've had my belt tensioner replaced 3 times (in the last 40,000 miles!!!) and the belt isn't squeaking like the tensioner is bad, but it's damn annoying. I live in Maryland, and it rains just enough that the belt squeaks damn near all the time. Does anyone know what I can do about this? The truck only has 81,000 miles on it, but the squeak is driving me CRAZY!!!
Mine has done the exact same thing ever since I put a new belt on. If i put my old one back on it never does it. So I'm just running the old belt until I have time to figure it out. Never really took the time, but I guess I need to or my old one might blow out on me. Wouldn't be fun
In my experience belt dressing usually isnt a good idea on a serpentine belt. It might help for a few minutes but usually then it gets worse. If the belt has been replaced you may need to try cleaning the belt and pullies with a wire brush. Sometimes giving the belt a shot of WD40 with the engine running will clean it up pretty well too. Just dont use too much and dont use anything else but WD40.
The squeak probably isn't coming from the belt OR the tensioner, then. It may be from the fan clutch or the smog pump.
Don't spray anything but water, soap, or belt dressing on the belt. (Occasional mud is OK, too. ) You can shoot a little WD-40 on anything else that might be causing the squeak, and that's probably a good way to ID the source. Just try not to let the fan blow it onto the belt.
I have a simalar problem. I had a noise like that and I sprayed wd-40 on the belt tensioner pulley and it went away. I replaced the pulley only and it went away for about a week. Took my truck through the car warsh and it does it again. It only makes the noise when I am not accelerating. Any ideas on what this could be. It annoyes the hell out of me. I can't take it any longer. Please help
I found that a Gates belt worked best but when I changed it out I also de greased the waterpump pulley with brake cleaner. This worked fine for 1 1/2 years but now it's back squeaking again. If I spray WD40 on the idler and tensioner pulleys it quits for a while but always comes back but then WD 40 is not a lubricant but a water displacer, that's what the "WD" stands for. I even went as far ad to pop the seals off the bearings and add a bit of grease because they were almost dry but that still didn't fix the problem. I guess I will have to break down and buy new pulleys
