Bittersweet Day with the Excursion!

First of all I gotta say thanks to all of you for all the info encouragement etc......these past 5 years! The 6.0 Excursion was nice to have these past 5 years but it's good to get rid of any further potetial engine problems at this time!

Purchased a 2500 Suburban 8.1 gasser today! Just to many issues with the 6.0 and I couldn't stand it anymore!

I picked up this Suburban:

2006 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Carbon 4 Dr. Wagon. A Chevrolet Suburban at Liberty GMC Peoria AZ

Was gonna do a V10 Excursion but after driving the 8.1 with 4.10's I quickly realized it would outrun even my 6.0 with a stock tune in it! I know mpg's will be worse than my ol 6.0 but all I care about now is reliability! Pretty much anything on a gas engine can be fixed with a $1000 dollars unlike most Diesel repairs!

It was really sad driving away and leaving the Excursion behind!

I'll drop in from time to time, who knows maybe the new owner of my Ex will become a member of FTE!

Take Care guys!
Scottman

P.S. Thanks Hemi guy, and cheezit for all your help with the towing and engine issues!! You guys were a big help along the way!

Scott,

Man it is going to be hard to not see you around this forum...but I totally understand the situation you were in.

My buddies with the 8.1L's are as happy as us V10'rs are...and Mobil and Exxon and BP are happy with us all! hehe...now you can help keep them afloat too!

Seriously...don't be a stranger my friend...and if you need any help getting this Sub set up for towing...don't be afraid to ask!

Take care and Be Safe on your trip!

Joe.

Scott,

I was reminded by one of my 8.1L buddies that you will need to change out the factory tow reciever on the Burb...

They are somewhat known to be "fragile"...if you want some nasty pictures of them being "ripped" off of themselves...just ask.

Seriously...I wouldn't tow with the OEM GM receiver from this year truck...

Sorry I forgot to mention that earlier.

Here is the picture of his receiver after his Hensley slammed into the back of his truck!

Sweet ride.
I just rented a Tahoe, the Burb's lil' brother, for a 1700+ mile R/T to North Carolina and back. Through the snow, Ice, didn't matter, that little gasser kept on truckin and @ an average 80 mph, still got me 20 (+/-) on the highway and 15-17 round town!

Yeah mine has that same hitch, but wow it doesn't look anything like that! Mine has no rust of course since its an AZ vehicle? I broke my Excursion hitch too, so I probably will look into a heavy hitch! Visually this one looks like new............None of the stock hitches are any good! My Dodge Mega Cab 2500 hitch was all torn up in like 6 months?

The problem with the GM reciever of this type...is those vertical supports where they are welded tend to "crack" and "fracture.

This particular issue arose when he got "Hensley Bumped!"...

My buddy that had this hitch break is from NY so he has salt for sure...but the year it broke the truck wasn't that old either!!!

Do youself a favor and look at a Putnam XDR receiver...just a thought.
