Rear End question

Hello, I was wondering something. Is it possible to find a rear end from of the same truck model and swap it with the one I have now. Id like to get a higher gear ratio and I thought if possible this could be a sort of simple way to increase it. Thanks

Any rearend from 1980-96 should fit from a f100 or f150. You will find early rearends to be Ford 9 inch rears, and later ones Ford 8.8(probably what you have). If you mix styles, you might need a driveshaft if the nose of the rearend is longer or shorter so check that. There may be other very minor differences, but it should bolt right in. If you want the lower ratio rearends, look for a f100 with a 300 six in it. A lot of these had 3.00-1 ratios and even in the high 2-1 ratios.

If by chance you have a 9 inch, it's easier to swap the center section. If you have a 8.8, you are better off swapping the whole rearend, or buying the new gears and taking it to a shop to set them up.
