I'm sure this topic has been done before, but I just wanna vent.
I have many pet peeves, but one of my biggest is time management. People need to learn to manage time more efficiently. ESPECIALLY if it will effect others.
Example: Someone is coming to your house for dinner at 5. They decided on the time, I didn't tell them to be here at that time. They call and say they haven't left yet but will be here in 30 minutes. I tell my wife, "no, they are wishing, but it will be longer". Sure enough, it's an hour later. It's not that they were late that frustrates me, it's that they said a time, changed it, then couldn't even get here at the time THEY changed it to. Be realistic on how long things take.
My wife does this too, and I have to catch her and tell her "no, it will be longer".
If I tell someone a time, I'm there at that time. If I have to change it, then I call and tell them a REALISTIC time frame, and I stick to that time.
I HATE being late places, especially if we are meeting somewhere.
Growing up in a Navy family instilled the "be on time all the time" ethic in me. Spurgeon claimed half his success was from being 15 minutes early to every appointment he ever had.
We have customers ask for a courtesy call before we come. Something like call 30 minutes before going. On countless times I call, they ask how long I will be.
I tell them about 30 minutes, that is why I am calling. They then tell me they need an exact time. I tell them it depends on traffic but about 30 minutes. When I get to their homes, i am still waiting on them to show up.
I had a customer tell me that they were 10 minutes from the house and that they were going to work another 20 minutes before leaving. They showed 40 minutes after I was there.
It kills me that people will not wait on a scheduled service, but will make the service guy wait on them.
Time management can go the other way. My inlaws have been known to appear an hour or more early. Not always a good thing.
My brother tended to be a bit late, so we started 'adjusting' the times so that everyone got there more or less on time.
Doesn't always work, but if people are predictable, it can save a lot of frustration.

Very good point.
I try to let people know if we are going to be more than 20-30 minutes early, depending on where we are going and why. Family gatherings and get togethers, but again, it all depends on the situation.
METT-TC dependent
The thing is, I don't always care if people are late, as I just expect it. It's when I get a call and a new time frame and are STILL late. If you are going to be late, fine. I would be much happier if you told me an hour, and it took an hour, than if you told me 30 minutes and it took an hour. That makes you flaky, and I (nor does anyone I assume) like dealing with flaky people.
People with car stereos so loud and so much bass, they shake the windows in your rig, while sitting at a stop light...........Seriously, who are you trying to impress? ......No, your pizzing me off, and one of these days my patience will run out.
I hate a liar, or a thief.somebody you can't trust.

Agreed.
Now, there was a point in my life, that I could NOT be 'on time', no matter what I did.
(Divorce. Alcohol. Stupidity. Depression. They all played a role in this scenario.)
Trust me on this, my friends. You will NEVER find the answers to your problems at the bottom of a liquor bottle.
Now, If I have a certain time to be somewhere, I make certain I'm there ahead of time.
The way I look at it, 15 minutes early means 15 minutes of my valuable time I'm giving to someone else for free.......
I agree on the late thing....5pm means I get there at (or very slightly before).....5pm.....
exactly!! I clock in 2 mins early every day. doesn't mean I don't get there earlier, but I will spend the extra few minutes in my car listening to the radio or on the laptop.
my biggest pet peeves are bad drivers and people who walk around during working hours complaining how lazy other people are. look in the mirror, and unass my AO, DUMBAZZ!!
