Hey guys i got a funny issue goin on with our dump. Its a 1995 build date of 03-95. I believe which i non obd2 since that came in 95. We started it up and it ran fine then all a sudden ran like hell like only running on 4 clys and NO smoke. I replaced the cam sensor about months ago for a no start and now gettin this issue. So i when to plug my code reader in and the truck will just shut off which leads me to believe that my code reader isnt for the older non obd trucks. This thing is also a superduty/f450 so that def eliminates it from obd2. Thing is being a tech by trade but also working for a navistar dealer not ford. Im just curious what i need to read these codes. I have AE at work and can get it for tm night. I never used it on this truck though. used it on my 96 and diaged for a cold miss which worked great. I just need some quick help and ops here if anyone has any. Thanks and happy new year!!!!!!!
What chris said. Most likely its a wire harness going into the valve cover on one bank of the engine. Shouldn't be hard to figure out which one it is because the manifold will be cold on one side- if its the whole side. It could just be a few injectors with burnt pins like Chris said
Check those pins even closer with a magnifine glass if necessary. I will bet its a burnt pin or more.
No messed up pins at all Resistence was all good through all them. Had this issue on my 96 and it had everything melted into one big glob on the right side but it did it all the time. Im more concerned about why the truck shuts off when i plug in a scanner. I just wanna see what the codes are but i also dont wanna spend thousands of dollars on a scanner just to pull a few codes. My MIL came on too when this happenedwhich doesnt lead me ro believe it a inj cause those wont throw codes. The failed IDM or cam sensor will. Cam sensor is 20 bucks from work. If it did it all the time it wouldnt be hard to diag but i cant pull stored codes tosee whats up
Okay, I'm thinking we found a new source for cam sensors.
I didn't think you were supposed to plug in a scanner when the truck was running. Plugging in my scanner and then starting the truck, my scanner will cause the engine to stutter and sometimes shutoff, but I think that's normal for the test it's doing.

Other than that, I'm not sure why this happening.
IDK maybe not? Im used to newer rigs though man or the t444e in buses and chit. Its funny cause my96 and dads 97 dont do it just these early years do. I cant figure out why though. I work with a guy who worked for ford for 19 years im gonna ask him on wed but iwanted to get some other ideas. My issue could be tons of things i dont like to jump to conclusions cause its easy to throw parts and assume things. It really irritates me cause i just wanna read sotred codes cause then i have a starting point. At work my computer is attached to my side and is my most used tool weather it be a cummins, cat, navistar, or detriot engine i love diaging engines but when i cant even pull codes on a simple engine like this it makes me wanna pull my freakin hair out

O and workin for a international dealer does have its perks
I hear ya. It's always the little gremlins that drive us insane. In my case, the scanner instructions say to plug in the scanner and then turn the key to the "On" position (not engine running) in order to read the codes.
I think the '95 would work the same way, but am not sure because my experience is strictly with the '97 I own.
Maybe try pulling codes with the key on/engine off and see what you get. Good luck. Let us know what you come up with.
I missed that commercial. I always thought the voices I thought I heard were coming from under the seat of my truck. I don't normally allow anyone to eat in the truck so I'll have to check with the wife and daughters to see if they know where the fries might have come from.
