I did a thread search, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Anyways, my truck has "missed" a few times over the past week. I changed the fuel filter, oil, and oil filter, and it's missed a couple of times since. The last time it "missed", the check engine light came on. I turned the truck off, set my DP Tuner back to stock, and then turned the truck back on, and the light hasn't come back on since.
What I'd like to find is a place close to me (north side of Houston, Texas) where I can scan my codes.
It's more like a hiccup. It's happened four times; once on 12/24 (in the rain, without pulling my boat, in 80/tow), and three times on 12/29 (not raining, pulling my boat, in 80/tow). Each "hiccup" was slightly worse than the previous. The only time the SES light came on was the 4th (and last) time I had a "hiccup". I pulled my boat short distances over the weekend in stock-mode, then pulled it 100 miles @ 75mph in stock-mode this morning, and didn't have any problems. I bought the truck in 2004 with 100,000 miles, and I haven't changed the CPS. I now have 342,000 miles on the truck. I really doubt the previous owner changed it, but I'm not sure. I've been reading threads about CPS problems for a couple hours, and I'm hoping that is my problem. I have to put a lot of miles on my truck this week while pulling my boat (I'm kinda a traveling fishing guide), so I need to solve this problem quickly. I love my DP Tuner! I can't hardly stand pulling my boat in the stock setting anymore.
I had the CPS hiccup right after I bought my truck. A couple years prior, I'd had the CPS go out on my Ex, but it never hiccupped and I'd never read where that was a symptom before, so I wasn't sure what was going on.
When I posted my "hiccup" thread a couple years ago, someone asked if it happened when I had the wipers on intermittent. The wipers were never on, but I went out a few days later and while driving down the freeway, turned the wipers on and guess what! The engine quit, LOL!
I drifted to the side of the road, waited a few minutes, fired her back up, drove home and popped my spare CPS in.
Like I said, I'm hoping my issue is as simple as a faulty CPS, but my truck died as most threads describe. I've just had hiccups. Would a faulty CPS cause these hiccups without ever shutting off the engine? Also, would a code scanner give me a code saying that my problem is a faulty CPS? I'm really wanting to find an accurate scanner in my neck of the woods.
I do not have a spare CPS, but I DO have a Ford dealer a mile from my house, and I'm not working tomorrow, so I'll have a new CPS in about 8.5 hours
After I replace the CPS, will a scanner show whether or not my previous CPS caused the SES light to come on? I wonder if the dealer will scan for codes if/when they replace my CPS.
Find someone near you. Seems like more than half the people on the forums are from Texas! There has got to be someone. You will never fix the problem if you don't know whats causing it. And the code is there to tell you...
