If u will pm me your vin number, u might be eligible for the recall cps since u have had it that long and not changed it. Mine is a 2000 as well and I just had it done last week.
Had the same thought, sent him a PM, he's been getting the recall notices so his needs to be done.
I've been getting the letters from Ford about the recall every couple months, so I'm pretty sure I need it. Actually, I just saw the recall was issued in December of 2007, and I bought the truck in 2004, so I know it hasn't been done. The dealer's only a mile from here, so I'll have the current CPS replaced, and I'll buy a spare while I'm there.
I had the black sensor when they did the recall last week. I really only went in there for the cruise recall. They talked me into the other recall by agreeing to let me keep my original sensor. The injectors seem to be quieter with the new sensor. I have not driven verymuch as I was off work for the last 12 days. I noticed today sitting a little quiver at idle I have never felt before. Almost a slight miss. I have the other one if i need it. You might consider IMHO buying a black one from riff raff as your spare. It is a little more expensive than the new one but the trucks seem to like them a little better.
The sensors they put in when they first started the recall have been redesigned again since the recall started. They are still gray but the tech told me to throw away the gray one I purchased as a spare last year when traveling to kentucky. I have not done it yet b/c i just cannot throw away $25
AE is a very good scanner but there are a couple of things to be aware of; first you need a laptop to run the software while it's plugged into the vehicles OBDII port, and second you have to get the "enhanced Ford package" so it can read all the diesel codes from our trucks.
I had the dealership replace the sensor per the recall this morning, and drove about 150 miles without any hiccups. Hopefully, this fixed my problem. One day soon I'd still like to a scanner to verify the issue. Thanks for everyone's help and input!
I'm on the SW side (Richmond), but work off the Beltway and I-10 area. My AE is in the mail right now from RiffRaff...should be here Thursday. I'm going to play with it a little when I get it, but feel free to give me a shout if you are still having problems. After having my truck scanned for free over the holidays, I don't mind paying it forward.
