i was putting my new grille guard on today and while i was underneath my truck i noticed that my crossmember underneath the radiator is rusted in half at the frame rails. what are my options for this and how serious is it? is it safe to drive until i can get it fixed or what? can i make one or junkyard it?
Where can i get a new one or is this something i have to get from a junkyard? I know were restoring dads ranger now and have to replace 3 rusted crossmembers on the frame and no one makes them.
Is it the section directly below the radiator? Its pretty important, and should be fixed if it is really bad. How bad is yours?
If it is the radiator support, you should be able to get it from NPD or LMC. Bronco Graveyard may have it as well. You could source a good one from the salvage yard.
LMC has it for 189, but I don't know what the shipping is.
Here is one on Ebay thats not a bad deal for 207 total.
Im not sure which it is. Ill look tonight. I kno i looked and on the other side of the frame rails it has a body mount. Ill try and look tonight. I know the little rubberflap that tucks into the bumper is attached to it.
Am i talking about the whole radiator support like pictured or the corner support? I looked on ebay and they had the big piece like pictured and they had a smaller piece as well
There is a guy on Dec 3 Roanoke, VA craigslist that has a whole front clip for $150. That 2nd pic on ebay is just a shrunken pic. Otherwise check with some of our sponsors.
nevermind i searched around and found some other threads. looks like this is a pretty common problem. local junkyard said 125 if they even have one. i got a friend at school that has a parts truck hes trying to get rid of. he said he might have one and i could come by and look. kind of tight on cash right now or i would just grab the whole truck, park mine for awhile, change out the rad support, and put a 4.10 underneath it from the parts truck. but oh well. thanks for all the help guys i really appreciate it. im sure ill be back with more questions once i get the project started. i get a long weekend the 17th of this month. maybe i can get it done then. because heaven knows we cant ever work on anything with out it turning into a major operation and running to the parts store a million times.
