I found one for cheap around $150 dollars, pry can talk him down as he just wants it gone. I am thinking about running it on my 84 Ford F250 with 460 and 4spd, soon to be 5spd. From what I understand these suckers are really tempermental not really good for a daily driver but I am guessing its way better then the stock 4180 carb on these Fords. Plus the price is way cheap. How can I run the vaccumn lines and stuff with this carb? I searched but never found anything certain about it.
Yeah I noted there was a shop in Oregon that specializes in them. I figured I can get it for $100 dollars its worth a shot. Only thing I have heard is that they suck for mpgs.
There suppoesed to be self adjusting, but I heard they just b=never worked right. Ford used a similar carb in the early 80's that sucked tons of fuel, but Predator fixed that prob. The only problem is there labor intensive to set up.
Webbers are self-adjusting to a minor extent for altitude. I had a few bugs and loved them becouse the ran great over large hills.
They suck period. I worked on them years ago. Could never keep them calibrated. They work ok on like a pull truck or something like that where it is idle and WOT. Had a pair on a blown 502 in a 55 Chevy street car and they required readjustment every time that the temp changed. Tossed them for a pair of Holleys and never looked back. The cars owner was pleased that I did!!
A Predator carb is worth whatever it will bring as scrap aluminum to me. I think you will be highly disappointed.
In your case, the 4180 is actually the better choice. Go with an Edelbrock carb and you will be happy. My 460 loved it. my 351 loves them too.
