So I have heard lots of different rumors from friends that I can fit earlier year stepsides on my f100. I have a 76 stepside with a rotten bed on it, what years will fit for sure? I have been searching around and cant seem to find one in the years that i thought i could use. I thought it was the years 73 through 79. Could it be more then these years by chance?
With the step side you can go back to 53.For the style side they changed the gas cap to a gas door in 77.And in 79 they changed the gas tank vent filler tube to a different location.
I've got a 1995 "Flareside" bed I plan to be putting on my '77 next weekend. I fully anticipate the bolt locations to be correct, the filler hose I know I need to modify, and wiring of the taillights. Will probably be an all day job, but well worth it because the newer beds are fiberglass. Won't be rusing away anytime soon!

Depending on what is rotted, there are repair panels available for that bed. It was common for the lower portions of the bed to rot. The lower panels can be cut off and replacements welded in place.
