I hope someone can give me some type of direction. My 2006 f350 when I'm out plowing I hear the clutch fan engaging that's one of my concerns, the transmission concern is that when plowing I'm doing a lot of forward and backing up. When I put the trans in reverse it sometimes engages and disengages quickly.. It feels like the trans is slipping.. Any thoughts??
Kinda sounds like a torque converter that's getting a little funky
Can you explain that? I don't understand how the torque converter is involved with the reverse engagement.
As for the fan clutch, that's normal on a truck when it's working hard. It's making a lot of heat and you probably are not going very fast, so there isn't a lot of air going over the radiator. Plus there probably is a plow out front that is blocking some of the air that is there.
I also plow with a 6.0. The reason your fan clutch is kicking on is because your truck is getting to hot due to the radiator being blocked by the plow. Unless your truck came from the factory with the snowplow package. Your fan clutch will sometimes turn backwards due to the plow. You have to change it to a fan clutch that's built for the snowplow package. Or risk overheating your motor. My plow truck (which is not my 6.0) has spiked up to the point where the check guage light comes on due to engine temp. The boss says to drive around with the plow just off the ground to allow greater airflow to the rad. Oh well I tried to educate him. I guess he can't blame me when the motor explodes.
