Ok, i,ve had my truck ('69 f250, 360,c6, 2bb) long enough now to start thinking about a tuneup. I've had the truck for just over a year. When i first got it i converted the points to the petronix system, changed plugs, wires and set the timing. It has run perfectly.
My Question is : How often should i be changing the plugs? Timing?. It seems to be a little sluggish lately.
Im thinking this engine must have been rebuilt at some point, because it runs so well. The previous owner was given this truck after his grandfathers death and didnt know any of the service details.
One last question. Is there a way to know if the engine has been rebuilt at some point?
With the Petronix the plugs should last a long time and you never have to retime it because nothing wears or changes. One thing you should check is the compression. You might pull the plugs and check them for the right color and if they're all burning.
The Gap on the plugs will change over time...occasionally the electrodes can even break off....I would change them once a year or once every 6 months....depending on your driving habits...
All good advice above. Plug I'd check the vacuum advance and see it is in good working order. Maybe just a little carb adjustment is needed too. I like to use a carb cleaner and some Heet additives to help suck up any moister in the gas tank and line, and carb..my 2cent..
