Hey, does anybody have an engine compression tester? I would like to get the ball rolling on this distributor ordering, and I need to do a compression test for it.
Probably no room in your garage bay anymore, huh? I don't feel like getting snowshoes on to check the compression, ha!
Good morning guys. G/f has a plumber coming this morning to check out a leak. If it were in her apartment, it would have already been taken care of, but it is in the apartment upstairs. It's been almost 6 months since saying something to the lady, and having to get the property manager involved. It's to the point where drywall is peeling off the ceiling.
alden and i shoveled my parents roof off yesterday, and then i went to my inlaws house and started shoveling that off. one section has 4' of waterlogged snow, i am concerned that the house might not hold it much longer. they have leaks all over from the ice damming as well.
Well, I can tell you Scott really knows his stuff.
If you feel the need for a COC distributor, go right ahead....(I'll leave that HEI stuff for the Chevy guys)
But personally, I'd rather have a system where I can find a part and get back on the road if I'm broken down in the middle of nowhere.
You can buy a pretty hot MSD, Mallory, Pertronix or Accel coil for far less than the $200+ difference.
A DSII box is good to 6k at least.
JMHO
I am assuming you are referring to the box doing 6k rpm. I would be HORRIBLY disappointed if the box was only supposed to last 6k miles...FAIL! The simplicity of the one wire system is pretty intriguing.
Ray, I appreciate that. How does your next weekend look?

My buddy's 347 regularly sees close to 7,000 rpm. It doesn't break up at all.
IME the Duraspark box itself lasts about 100,000 miles, or you could always go MSD AL6, but then you're almost at the same price point.

I'm sure it would clean up the engine bay!
Diagnostics are simple if you only have to have power and everything else just gets replaced.
And if you can just use a regular GM setup as replacement the cap & coil won't be hard to find.
i see a marketing opportunity for a tunable coil on plug crank trigger standalone ignition system. i will add that to my list of things to do in my spare time...

Good luck whichever way you go.
You and all your acronyms! I can't keep up with them, haha. What is IME? I am slowly picking up on them. I found that "FTW" has two different meanings. That threw me off for a while!
Hey everyone. Been interesting week over here for me. Good and bad. Well lets start with the bad. My grandmother passed away the day before yesterday @89 years old. One of my great uncles punctured his lung using the snow blower and is in the hospital since yesterday. Okay so on to the new good new. Got my free cr-48 laptop from google yesterday in the mail. It runs chrome os. Pretty much it is google chrome as the only thing you can use. That will be pretty good for school for surfing the net as i have horrible class times and am stuck at the school all day. I got the disk brake brackets for my sterling 10.25, and should have the rest of the parts for that ordered next week. I've also decided what i'm going to do with the 83 f250. I'm either going to but an 6.9 idi in it or a 300. Both would be turbo charged in the future. If i put the 300 in i'm gonna run the megasquirt system. This will be my project. The 91' has the brakes to be finished, frame, and exgaust. So i almost have all the parts and i'll have something to drive and come to the gtg. Anyway everyone enjoy their weekend as i will be.
good evening CT, I was told a funny/true story today. My friends family has owned and operated a sawmill up here in VT for 50 years + and never once had anyone get hurt. Then when an OSHA inspector came out to check out the mill, he was told not to put his hands in a certain area but refused and ended up losing 3 fingers. He took them to court and ended up basically being laughed out by the judge cause he's the safety inspector! LOL
