I have this old unit that really does not work anymore. It has been sitting outside for too long to be in working order. It needs to be cleaned out and refilled. So, where do I get this done? Sears, Walmart etc?
If I am you are talking about a regular fire extinguisher, I would prolly just get a new one.
I would turn the old one in at the landfill or perhaps the fire dept. (for proper disposal). New ones are not that expensive.
There are places to rebuild and certify them. I used to do it. For the average home owner, it is easier and roughly the same cost to just buy a new one.
If it is a special mix or sentimental, go to your local store and find their fire extinguishers. They have big tags on them verifying that they have been tested and serviced annually. Get the phone number from the tag and take the extinguisher to them.
Take it by your local fire department. People drop them off at our fire department daily. A local company picks them up, tests and refills them, and then drops them back off. I can't remember the charge for it right off but it's not too high.
