I have a 2002,F 350,7.3 diesel,auto,4X4,mostly stock,no tuners, has an aftermarket air filter and Autometer gauge pod,151K.The problem is that the truck will shut down with out warning,it happened after an hour of running the first time, the second was after about 20 minutes and the other was on a fresh startup. What happens is the dash gauges, radio and the engine all shut down like you turned off the key. When you let it sit for a few minutes it will fire back up and runs great.I do not have a code reader to tell if any codes have come up.My first thought was the CPS but that should not turn off the dash.It will crank when this happens, but not start. ROY.
Also you might have a chaffed wire in the engine compartment. I would start the truck and try wiggling wires and see if you can repeat the problem. Tracking down electrical gremlins can be a pain.
It did turn out to be a fuse,at least I hope so!! The one 30A square fuse for the ignition switch had gotten corroded and was loose.I found it by accident, had the bottom of the column off and the fuse box covers off and was probing around with my meter while the engine was running, touched that fuse and everything went dead!!Just to prove it I started the truck and tapped the fuse, same result, put in a new fuse, much tighter, could not make the engine or gauges quit. Thank You for the help. ROY.
