ok just had a buddy ask me, on this, he was running low on fuel the other night comeing home from work out of state no station in site so he pulled her over and gave her a big drink of ruby off road fuel, now i no it a big fine and told him that he is just worried it will mess some thing up. its a 97 cc lb drw 4x4 no mods just dp and no cat,6637 mod,. all the off road fule has is more sulfer right and a red die in it??? my grandpa ran it in his 85 6.9 that never left the farm and that truck has like 900,000 miles on it and no moter probs, o the heads was replaced when it had like 50,000 on it. so is he safe other than looking over his shoulder for DOT, or has he made big probs for his 7.3????
It's the exact same sulfur content everywhere in the country now. Has been for a couple years. In fact I checked earlier this morning. There isn't a fuel station anywhere in the country still selling the old low sulfur fuel anymore. Off road just has dye in it and no road taxes. That's it.

ok cool, now the guys over on the 6.7 told my brother not to do this with his new 6.7, it would mess it up??? also not to self dont go to other sites stay in 6.9 and 7.3!!! the 6.0 and 6.4 and 6.7 guy are some thing else!!!!
off-road fuel will be fine in the truck, and yeah stay in the 7.3 forums, we are usually a little more easy going
lol dont make fun of 6.0 or call dealer ships stealerships you pm box will be full in min!!! lol iam just like all you other guys we call stealerships that cuse they are crazy for some of the price on parts , and mean no disrepect for the pep that work ther unless they are a dumb @ss!!!
I worked in a bunch of stealerships too. That's why I call them that now. They'd be out of business if they weren't ripping people off.
Just FYI, I confirmed the ulsd vs lsd deal with our supplier last time I talked to him too. He assured me it's no longer legal to sell in Texas and hasn't been available anywhere in over a year. I know some people think they are special though and like to believe they got better diesel than the rest of us. If it's diesel then it's not going to hurt your truck. Winter grade does not agree with your original seals much though. Hopefully all of them have been replaced by now though.
My 07 tractor has a tier 4 diesel in it and a DPF which is about to accidentally get ripped off by a tree limb. anything other than ulsd will tear that up. older diesels can burn darn near anything as long as it's clean.

i hear that!! my oil cooler still has not fix its self as well as my gps!!!! thats all i ask santa for to!!!!
ok so talked with coop to day and there is a 85 cents diff between fuel with are farm act can save almost 1 buck, but the fine if you get pulled over is up to 1200 bucks 1st time and 10 grand 2nd so not sure if its worth it and if you mix it turns pink i no from when i had it in 100 gallon fuel tank.
The dye they use in off road fuel wil stain anything red if it is in it long enough.
Several of our machines have sight glasses in the tanks, which are now red sight glasses.
The metal inside the fuel filters, the inside of the fuel tank and probably everything else in the fuel system is also red.
Yes those machines have been running red fuel for years.
PS. they are off road construction machines, so red fuel is what they should be running.
A very small amount of red fuel will make clear diesel pink.
So if he runs that tank completely out of fuel then refills it with clear, it will probably still be slightly pink for a couple tanks.
From my time down in the IDI forum, I can also tell you that the fines vary from state to state.
Some states are enforcing the law, others are not.
Most off road fuel has been ULSD since 09.
If your truck has a cat or DPF, then you probably would not want to run LSD in it.
But that would also mean your truck is 07 or newer if I remember right.
Here the fine first time is 5,000 dollars.
I will not be running red in my trucks.
Also on a side note, if you do get caught with red fuel in your tanks, watch what you say.
If you make them mad enough, the charges can be tax evasion.
The state troopers here are always pulling over trucks like mine with farm tanks in the bed. I have a big 100 gallon one that is in there when the camper isn't on. Last year I put a water block filter on it that has a clear housing and so far they haven't checked my tanks since I did that. It's obviously clear diesel. Before though I would get checked every time one saw me on the road. It was getting pretty annoying being the same female cop all the time and I kept reporting her but it didn't slow her down. She always wanted to search my truck too and I never let her. I used to be a cop too so I know when it's harassment. They just love farmers around here.
No. When I do use mine to haul home some red B100 for the tractor I flush the crap out of it with clear then change the filter before I even think about getting caught on the road again. I'm not risking getting accused of running red. It does come out pretty easy though. You just have to flush a few gallons through it.

I don't understand this statement. My '97 came from the factory with a cat and LSD fuel was THE fuel during that time. I haven't changed the cat and it's the original one AFAIK.
