I have a 92 F150 4x4 5.0L AODE and a few months ago it started idling extremely poorly when warm (It would shake the whole truck) The mechanic changed the computer which helped for a while and I had to take it back a few weeks ago. This time they found that two cylinders on the drivers side weren't firing at all. They replaced the distributor cap, plugs and wires and everything was OK. We have madatory emissions testing here and the truck passed with flying colors about two weeks ago.
Since I got it back from the mechanic, it has a cold start problem. It starts OK runs for about 45 seconds at a high idle and then the idle drops and the truck stalls. It won't restart unless I give it gas and then I need to keep it running for about 30 seconds and it runs fine after that until it gets to operating temperature.
Once it gets to operating temperature, the check engine light comes on and it idles a little rough. Other than the idle being a little rough, it operates fine and has lots of power. My mechanic says that the computer code is "didn't find knock sensor on dynamic test". Can anyone tell me what the problem might be?
Not finding the knock sensor when doing an engine running self test usually means the guy doing the test didn't perform a brief WOT when he was supposed to (dynamic test) or the timing is so far retarded that it didnt ping when he did the WOT.
Did he have any engine off or memory codes when he tested it?
By your sypmtoms I wouldn't be surprised if you has a bad or just dirty IAC. You could try cleaning it. If you do a search with the search button near the top of the page you'll find more info on that. Or maybe Steve feels like typing it out again
