On the way home from class today that ominous check engine light came on while I was on the freeway. I have no idea what the problem could be. The only thing I noticed that was kind of odd was that the truck vibrated a little more than usual when I was leaving school. I know this isn't much to go on, but do you guys have ANY idea what could be causing the light to come on?
You need to either pull the codes from the computer yourself, or have a shop do it for you to figure out what set off the light. Autozone may or may not do the codes for free, depends on the vehicle, but I'd give them a call first if there are any around you.
I have a 94 ranger 2.3l 2wd. The check engine light came on in my ranger at about 60k miles. I had a shop check it out and they reported that is was a vacuum leak or #1 cylinder running lean. I didn't do any repair work. Just ran a fuel injector cleaner through it and kept up with the maintenance schedule. During tune ups the plugs look about the same. I didn't notice a mpg drop or anything but the engine light still comes on periodically. It has 195K miles on it now and still runs the same.
my check engine light came on in my 94 2.3l as i was on my way home from buying it, it went on and off for weeks, i replaced the clutch and pressure plate, and a tune up, and i havent seen that engine light since... i was told by a friend that these rangers have some faulty sensors, definately go get it checked out, but his advice was to put a piece of electrical tape over the light if nothing checks out :P
Hey I had around 70K on my truck when the same thing happened- didnt notice any difference really, just the same "shaking" my truck usualy does. So It was annoying at first, because I kept lookin at it, but its automatic- a guy told me at the shop that Ford does that to have you take your truck in for service- the only way it goes out is 1. if the dealer service dept turns it off or 2. if you wait long enough (maybe i think for me was 10 thousand miles) it turned off automatically one day by itself. And to tell you the truth- I didnt even notice at first! Now i have over 105 thousand miles on my pickup and it runs great!
