My E350 cruise control was working sporadically about 4 years ago and two trips to the dealership didn't change anything. It suddenly started working fine.
It just quit working again last month. Simply fails to engage (and of course there is no indicator light on the dash to tell you if it is on or not).
I checked the fuse and it is fine. Any suggestions for a fix? I get the feeling that a fix is going to be a bear with it being a van and all.
The switch on the front of the Master Cylinder is the one that controls the cruise. Unplug the connector and short the plug wires together, if the cruise works the switch is bad. About $20.00 to replace if you do it, $140.00 if ford does it. Sometimes You have to clear the code "PO703" brake switch error before the cruise will work.
My cruise was working sporadically and Ford said I had a short in the wireing and they would need to take my dash apart to locate the short at $110.00 per hour to search for the short. Thanks to this forum I tried the switch myself and have had no more cruise problems.
The Brake Pedal Position switch (on the brake pedal arm where the arm meets the plunger, also controls the cruise. I had it fail and my cruise control would not shut off until I pushed hard enough to engage the brake pressure switch. If the BPP switch fails in the other way, it would prevent the cruise from engaging.
Well I finally got around to changing out the clock-spring on my truck. The airbag light was flashing and the cruise control was not working and after installing the new part all problems solved. Thank you to all on FTE. I have learned a lot reading here and appreciate all the input I have received. Next project ARP studs and head gaskets and all upgrades involved with doing that project.
my old truck drove me nuts with this problem.turned out the pedal was so close to the brake light switch, that when i hit abump it would kiss the brake light switch and kill the cruise.
