hey everybody. just had to have my tranny rebuilt and the mechanic was telling me that i could unhook the banks transcommand from my truck w/ no harm to the tranny. i was wondering if anybody knew exactly how to disconnect the module. there is only one plug going into it and i cant tell if when you unplug it, it needs to be plugged in somewhere else. and if so where does it go? thanks
The Transcommand usually comes with a bypass plug. It plugs into the smaller round connector.
If you are running a tuner like DP-Tuner or any other one that raises line pressure you do not need to run the transcommand. You can return the truck to stock, by removing the transcommand wires from the factory connector and repinning it.
thanks for the quick response. i bought the truck w/ the transcommand on it already and i recently put the dp on it. where could i get the dummy plug to put on the end to keep it a running loop?
Banks would be my first place to check, otherwise you will just have to jumper out the right wires. If you have a DP Tuner I would just yank out the whole thing as it is not required anymore.
Open the link in post 2 and read "Attention TransCommand® Owner" section.
From that section:
"The Banks TransCommand increases clutch pressure to
reduce slip-time thereby providing a positive shift which
extends the life of the transmission. The amount of
TransCommand effect is dependent upon throttle position,
engine RPM and mile per hour. The TransCommand, in
conjunction with the Ford computer, is fully automatic in
sensing load conditions. The more load sensed, the more
the TransCommand will increase the line pressure on the
clutches."

OK So its a mod you can do but you don't need to do if you have a DP chip.
Really it is not required with a lot of the tuners or programmers out there. Banks just like to break everything up into packages. Their chips did not do anything with the transmission, so you needed to buy this module to raise line pressure and change the controls.
