'84 I6 keeps dieing

Hello everyone. Haven't been on here in awhile because I gave my baby to my brother in law. but he is having some trouble. It has had trouble with the feed back carb ever sense we got it. We just put a new carb on it back in April and it's having trouble again. I don't think it's the carb but wanted to run it by all of you first. It runs rough, not real rough but not smooth like I think it should. And it will die for no known reason when idling. When it dies it wont restart for several minutes but then will run fine again. Have thought about going back to the old non feedback setup, or forward to the F.I. But for now just need to get it running and reliable. So what do ya'll think might be a good place to start looking to fix this thing?
Thanks
Keith

When it won't start for a few minutes, take the air cleaner off, look down the carb and push the throttle open and see if fuel squirts down in the carb. If not, you have a fuel delivery problem to the carb.

If you have fuel, check for spark.

Thanks for the reply. We did check for spark from the coil wire to the dist. It was there but not real strong like I think it should be. Never thought to check for fuel in the carb but will check that out.
Thanks again.
