I just thought i would see what your ideas are on this. I have a 86 F350 crew cab with a 5.9 cummins swap. its not the prettiest truck right now but im gonna restore it. I'm going to paint it and try to put hard wood flooring in it also.
some of the best seats ive say in are from the 99 and newer super duty or the bucket seats in my dads truck (93 f150) The truck will be dark blue with a wide gray stripe down the side that ford is known for as of right now. so Finished product i would like black leather interior with a oak hard wood flooring done. my cousin makes some redicouls things with wood so I think I should be able to do it.
my question is since im going to try and use all this newer stuff like seats and the flooring and stuff should i try and do the dash and steering column also? I would take it out of a newer truck or SUV but not something so new that it has like a GPS or something in it. Pa got a 2010 F150 with sync and i wouldnt use that style dash.
I understand that using the superduty seats is going to be hard to get to work and i know the hard wood floor is going to be hard to do but Its all part of restoring. I think in the long run it will be well worth the money and be one of a kind truck.
I believe the 99+ superduty is a couple of inches wider than the half ton trucks. The dash might take some serious work to get set in. However, if you're doing a lot of wood working, perhaps you could adjust the dash with a wood section.
Have you considered doing a custom dash and skinning it with vinyl or even just staining the wood and trimming it in vinyl?
There could be enough clearance in the door panels and the foam to allow the doors to close. The floor pan and mounts should be off a good bit, but should be able to fab up brackets to make it work.
I was speaking more of the dash being too wide and because of the plastic, it would be difficult to shorten it up, keep the alignment of the column and still look good.
Plus with a wrap around wood dash, throw a couple of comfy bucket seats in and do a built in contoured center console. For me, I'd probably go with pine and a light oak stain for the tops and cedar and a cherry stain for the sides. But I've never used a steam box, so I don't think I would start with a dash.
Good luck and show us pictures of whichever way you go.
if i didnt use super duty seats i would put the powerstroke seat i have in the front in the rear and then get some big rig low ride seat gliders and then have them in the front and have buckets.
i like the wood dash idea alot, i', gonn have to look in to that more.
