ScanGauge FWT - ECT

Yes, it's a bit ****, but can anyone tell me how to change the 'FWT' reading on my scangauge to say 'ECT'?

Just go add the code for fWT in the XGAUGE and name it "ECT"

I figured it was something easy like that, but looking at the scangauge Xgauge codes, I can't seem to find the generic code for FWT...

It's not that I don't 'like' FWT, it's just my obsessive/compulsive disorder shining through!

Plus I saw a picture somewhere that someone else was able to make the change to the much preferred ECT, so now that I know it is possible, I won't be able to sleep until it's done!

I'm not sure it's possible to change it to ECT from what I read and adding the same parameter to the xgauge might cause a "programming conflict" in the scangauge since WT is one of the basic gauges. It would be nice to do though.

I was typing while you were posting--LOL. I'd like to know how to do it too and what the commands function is for since they are a little vauge about commands. I also had xgauges already programmed that I don't have a clue wtf they do with no listing for them in the instruction manual.

Considering I just found and replaced my EGR valve last week - a task that took me a solid week to accomplish - this rocket science is also WAY above my pay grade!

Or in the off chance your vehicle runs in CAN (a protocol that was introduced around 2003, but was rare) try:

Let me know how that works. There might be an issue if the coolant temperature goes negative, and the scaling might be off a little so check it against the other fWT reading.


I found the 'rare' CAN XGauge settings worked, and for me, the new ECT and the fWT readings are practically the same, or at least within a degree or so.


Whew! I can lay my OCD to rest, at least for now.

I do have to run mine in CANSF or it won't connect, but I'll try both. Wonder what other goodies they have tucked away that we might pry out of their grubby little hands--LOL.

I'm definitely going to load it up this morning as ECT is a much more familiar term. I wish that there was a way to show MAP as "0" instead of 14.6 so I could conveniently read boost instead of always having to mentally subtract it. Oh well.....that's what my boost gauge is for.

It is possible that our scangauges are different so you may see a conflict I don't have on mine. It's all based on the firmware. I wasn't able to get transmission temp or "boost" to work on mine. I have A-pillar gauge for both though so I didn't try too hard. Mine also seems to read the same values no matter what CANXX it's set on.

Maybe this could be done, maybe label it BST.

I'd be interested in this.

But we'd have to ask for info from their techs.
Hopefully, It's essentially what was just done for the ECT vs. wFT.
We'd only need to alter the "scale" or "offset" setting to subtract 14.5 or
15 (or whatever it would be in your location: Denver, or SLC)

Since the meaning of the MTH (math?) value isn't defined we'd have
no way to know ourselves how to do this - except trial and error.

I had to set mine to CANSF for it to connect to my PCM and tried "All" and "Supported" PID's to keep it from going to sleep even with the key on. Still goes to sleep after I shut the engine off even with the key "on".

There are a couple of different trans temp commands to try. Did you find them both? This is the one that works on my 04:
TFT 07E1221674 046205160674 3010 000100080000 TFT Degrees F

I just got my SG on Monday so it's got all the latest updates. You might want to check the firmware version and send it for the updates, which I "think" are free. Their website has the info. I'd go out and check mine but the weather is just plain NASTY right now so I'll get it and check back.
