well if you are removing the trans i image you will just have to unbolt the motor mounts and maybe the manifolds from pipes. then jack up the motor and slide the pan out the back. you can do a search in these forums to be sure because this has been covered many times. i will be doing the same thing in the spring (rear main seal, and oil pan replacement)

Just replaced mine on my 95 f-250 5.8L You dont have to remove the radiator just the shroud. unbolt motor mounts and raise engine with a jack under the oil pan anout 1-2 ". put wood blocking between motor mount and frame You can now drop the oil pan down about 3 inches. You can fish a 1 piece gasket around the oil sender ,dip sitck , and crank get a can of the spray RTv and apply some around the top of the sides of the crank. This will help hold in position some until you put the pan back in.Make sure to get the little tabs on the gasket to set in the grooves around crank for proper sealing. There was no way I was dropping the exhaust after seeing the condition of the bolts. Also if you have a leak make sure it is not leaking from the oil pressure switch or the filter housing before changing gasket. The oil pan gasket should only take about an hour with two people.

Thanks that sounds good Im also thinking some of the leak is from the rear main so I think Im going to do it first and see but its just really wet around the gasket area.I did see a drip from the filter area too.none of which are too bad just dont like any leaks but thanks for the info just know how far up i need to go helps.I have my passenger side exhaust manifold leaking as well I know what you mean about the condition of the bolts

Are you changing the pan or the pan gasket. If you are changing the pan and the rear main, i would pull the engine. If you are doing just the gasket you can squeeze it in like richdavis said

it does seem that if you are droppin trannny and doing rear main seal you might want to get everything out the way. That eshaust pipe runs right underneath the rear main. you may be able to access the rear main with exhaust in. it will be a little tricky and take a bit longer, but not nearly as long as reaming off the exhaust bolts.
