electrical gremlin?

ok so once and a wile some weird stuff will happen with my truck. for instance when i shut off, it will stay running, then i have to disconnect the batt. and unplug the alt. to shut her down(4 or 5 times in the past 4 years). or sometimes i will shut it off, then the dash lights come on and fuel pump kicks on like the key is in the on position? it happens in waves...so when it starts to happen i will just unplug the batt. or i will go out the next morning and its dead. anyone ever have this happen? i am thinking ignition switch...or maybe a bad tumbler?

yeah sounds like the ignition switch on the top of the steering coloum. not the lock cylinder. these ford trucks use a manual rod that goes from the lock cylinder to the ignition switch. its not hard to replace the switch. when you do make sure you mark where your old one is BEFORE you remove it. it is a pain to align back up.
