I bought the truck with a Bullydog triple dog programmer installed. I was told all this would do is change the shift points. No performance gains. The program it was set on was "smooth shift". I removed it and put the ECM back to factory. The truck runs better and the transmission shifts better. Problem seems to be gone.
I decided to see if the truck would lose power under a load and this brings me to another question. What is the speed limiter set at? I drove the truck to the limits of the speedometer. The truck never quit but once the needle was buried the speedometer went to zero and the trip meter went to all zeros. It all returned to normal once I slowed down*. I thought the truck had a cut off at 98mph. What's the deal? Has this ever happened to anyone? *(Test was performed by a professional driver on a closed course. No animals were harmed during this test)
It sound like there may still be a hidden program in the ECM. I want to remove anything because I would like to purchase a DP later on.
Not sure what the stock speed limiter is. It is possible the the ecm could have a different tune other than stock. My computer has a 80 tow tune on it. You could send your ecm to dp or php and they could program the computer to a stock tune. If you get the dp tuner it will override whatever is on the computer so it really wouldn't matter.
The truck does not drive like it has a tune on it. The Bullydog did have a speed limit removal I just thought that the thing would have gone back completely. I will ask the folks at DP if it matters. Thanks!
